A DENBIGH man has been warned that prison is very likely after it emerged that he gave police his brother’s name when stopped by an officer in July of last year.

Defendant Alexander Hemsworth, 25, of Penycraig, Denbigh, appeared at Mold Crown Court this morning (Tuesday) and admitted a charge of doing acts intending to pervert the course of justice.

He pleaded guilty to giving his brother’s name, date of birth and address, when stopped by police on the A494 road on July 29 last year.

Defending barrister Jonathan Austin said his client appreciated the potential consequences of his guilty plea but said he would ask for a pre-sentence report.

The judge, Mr Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones, agreed, and the case was adjourned for a month.

He said that the fact that he was being bailed in the meantime was no indication of the sentence he would receive.

“You have pleaded guilty to a serious offence of perverting the course of justice. You initially pleaded not guilty but you have had the good sense to now plead guilty.

“It is important that you understand that perverting the course of justice is a serious offence and custody is very likely,” the judge warned him.
