A DOG has been found abandoned on an escape stairwell at the back of some flats in Rhyl.

The female bull mastiff type dog, nicknamed Vera, had been left with no water, food, shelter or bed.

The animal was found at flats on Edward Henry Street.

The RSPCA attended after the alarm was raised by a member of the public.

Rachael Davies, RSPCA inspector, said: “We’re appealing for information as we don’t know the circumstances around why this poor dog was left in a stairwell outside a block of flats.

"It does appear that she was just left there - abandoned without any water, food, shelter or a bed. She must have been so frightened.

"The caller told us she had been there for two days and people had been afraid to go past her as she was behaving aggressively.

"When I arrived she initially appeared aggressive but then she came around. She was just scared.”

The brindle dog, who has no microchip, has been placed into RSPCA care and has been named Vera.

She will be undergo a full veterinary check up once she has settled in to her new surroundings.

Inspector Davies added: “She is an affectionate soul and the staff looking after her say she is a lovely natured dog who loves her toys.

"If an owner is not found, she will be made available for rehoming and I’m sure she will make a great companion.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for Inspector Davies.
