An Oswestry man has raised more than £350 for two charities close to his heart.

Mark Jones took part in the Whittington Time Trial cycle ride last month to raise money for the Stroke Club and Oswestry Talking Newspapers.

"This was a challenge so lots of training took place," said Mark, who is also an Oswestry town councillor.

"I set myself a target of being under 35 minutes for the 10 mile test against the clock.

"Both the charities I was raising money for have been a great help to my mother Monica, who has lost most of her sight and also had a stroke two years ago."

Cllr Jones raised a total of £360, with £260 going to the Stroke Club and £100 to Oswestry Talking Newspapers.

"There was a great crowd gathered at the Old Boote in Whittington to cheer people on," continued Cllr Jones.

"Thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored me."
