A EVENT which aims to encourage people to ask others if they are feeling okay will take place next month.

The Swan Inn pub in St Asaph will host the night, to raise money for mental health charity Young Minds, on October 6. The evening will feature band Saving Violet.

Millissa Geddes, who took over the management of the Swan Inn in June, said: "A fundraiser has always been in the back of my mind since I first lost my childhood friend and little cousin however, being a mother, student and working full time, I’ve always struggled for time or put it off.

"My netball team mate took her own life earlier this year and also one of my older cousins.

"I think it’s just time to get the word out there, that it’s okay not to be okay and people will help anyone no matter what their individual circumstances are."

Millissa hopes the event will inspire people to take five minutes out of their busy lives to check on their loved ones.

"I guess what I want from this event is for people to actually understand that mental health issues are real," she added.

"If someone’s not feeling OK, dedicate time to help other people through their problems. There are so many people and different charities available to help, but people in a bad mind set think nobody’s willing to help them."

The night will include live music, cold food available and a raffle.
