THE COUNTDOWN is on for the sixth annual Oswestry Community Games.

There will be sport, music and dance from organisations around the area that provide free activities from 11am to 3.45pm at Cae Glas Park on Sunday, September 23.

This year the event welcomes Diane Carrington of Pontesbury as the guest of honour.

Dianne, 62, was part of an all-female trio that took on the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, which involves rowing 3,000 miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean.

She became the oldest woman to row the Atlantic and her trio broke three world records in a journey that took 60 days.
