A GOBOWEN man has cycled from one end of the country to the other, all in the name of charity.

Mike Harrington, 72, has been a regular bike rider for many years, touring throughout the UK and Europe.

But recently Mike took on the challenge of cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats, all to raise money for the Stroke Association.

Mike suffered a major stroke in January 2003, so he was delighted that he managed to raise more than £1,100 for the charity.

"I felt it was time in my senior age to take on the ultimate challenge," he said.

"So having completed all my planning over the winter months, I settled on the National Cycle Routes (Sustrans) Guide Book.

"I set off with my camping gear in June, cycling an average of 50 miles a day and arrived in Bristol in one week, Glasgow in three, and John O’Groats in week four, totalling 1,265 miles.

"I was also very lucky to have had such wonderful summer weather."
