Oswestry Tennis Club Ladies first team, captained by Josie Macrae, are celebrating after clinching the Shropshire Premier League title with their last fixture of the season.

They hosted Cound and in the first round rubbers Macrae partnered Flo Malherbe, taking the first set 6-4 but lost the second while Cound took the deciding third set tie break 0-1.

The second pair of Fiona Russell and Katie Land, showed no mercy with a straight sets win 6-1, 6-4 making it 1-1 at the halfway stage.

In the reverse rubbers Macrae and Malherbe played some determined tennis and won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 while Russell and Land overpowered the opposing first pair with the loss of only four games 6-2, 6-2 to win the title.

It has not been an easy season for the ladies. Kat Oakley fractured a finger and was no longer able to complete the season, but the team rallied round and made sure that four players were always available for a squad.

Two ladies from the second team, Speth Cumpston and Rebecca Hollywell, also contributed to this magnificent feat and Macrae showed great emotion as she realised that the team had done it, the first time in the club's history.

This was the icing on the cake on what has been a very successful season for the club with both Men's 1 and Ladies 3 winning their respective league titles. The club is now about to embark on the autumn Mixed League where they have entered six teams.
