Rugby is set to return to the town this weekend as Oswestry kick-off their 2018/19 campaign at Granville Park.

The Eagles face Aspul on Saturday without Luca Owen-Youens, who has made the step up to Midlands 1 rugby with north Shropshire rivals Whitchurch.

But Oswestry will be looking to improve on their fortunes compared to last season when they were inconsistent, producing battling performances throughout but not picking up the results.

Meanwhile, the club has re-iterated its focus on youth and women's rugby this year.

A spokesman said: "We welcome all age groups to our club focusing very much so on girls and ladies rugby.

"This season we want to promote rugby to a new high and we would like support from our town, with new potential players at senior men, youth, juniors and ladies.

"Come down and get fit, and enjoy fantastic company get involved in your local rugby.

We really do have a fantastic social network, extremely friendly. If you have never played before, it is not a problem as there are qualified coaches to help you on your way to sport and fitness."

Training times are Monday evenings for ladies and girls training in the evening while on Tuesday and Thursdays it is senior men at 7-9pm.

Sunday’s Juniors and Mini rugby starting Sunday, September 9 at 10am.
