RESIDENTS are being urged to "lock their doors" following an increase in burglaries across Rhyl and Colwyn Bay.

The incidents took place over the Bank Holiday weekend. On Sunday, high performance motor vehicles were targeted on Dyserth Road, Rhyl, and on Llandudno Road, Rhos on Sea.

The second spate took place during the early hours of Monday morning in Colwyn Bay. Pen y Bryn Road and the Old Highway areas were targeted and items, including jewellery and cash, were taken.

Detective Sgt Christopher Williams said: "Over recent days we've seen a rise in the number of burglaries, where the offenders have entered the properties through conservatories and insecure windows and doors.

“We are currently keeping an open mind as to whether the incidents are linked.

"We ask people to be vigilant and look out for anyone acting suspiciously around their local areas, in particular those where the elderly are living. We are determined to catch those responsible, but we are reliant on public support and appeal to anyone with information to contact us immediately."

“We are urging people to ensure they lock their doors and close their windows as opportunist thieves will take advantage of an insecure property, which can have a devastating effect.”

Anyone with information relating to the burglaries or witnessed any suspicious behaviour or activity should contact Central CID on 101. Alternatively, telephone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
