THE Edeirnion area's first ever summer festival – which all started with a Facebook comment – has been hailed a 'real success' as the grand finale went down as a hit.

The Gwyl Edeirnion Festival, an eight-day event organised by the South Denbighshire Community Partnership (SDCP), saw people of all ages take part in a range of competitions in art, poetry and photography around the theme of Welsh history, mythology and landscape, with the winners' work put on display by businesses in the town following a community ballot box vote.

Other activities included an archaeological dig, a bushcraft skills session, willow weaving, Tai Chi, an Owain Glyndwr walk, a movie afternoon for children and families, a drum workshop and a glass-making demonstration.

The festival drew to its conclusion at the Gwyl Edeyrnion Festival Family Day held at the Corwen War Memorial Park on Saturday, August 26.

Margaret Sutherland, development manager at the SDCP, said: "The eight-day festival has been a real success. It has been a celebration of the talent and skills within the area and a chance for the whole Edeyrnion Community to come together.

"What started as a comment on Facebook in January by Dylan Ellis Jones, with the support of South Denbighshire Community Partnership, has exceeded all our expectations.

"Throughout the week the Town has been buzzing with art, poetry, photography displays, live music and craft workshops, concluded by the grand finale family fun event.

"None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of the festival committee, Dylan Ellis Jones, Sue Harewood and Alys Bramhall, the support of so many local businesses, artists, groups and the community.

"We hope that the festival will be the first of many, so much was achieved by a small group of people – imagine what could be achieved with more volunteers and the positive social, economic and environmental impact this could have for the Edeyrnion area."
