A NEW pilot training scheme for school staff responsible for the care of children with medical needs will be held in Ruthin.

The voluntary training session, which will take place at Ruthin County Hall, is organised by Denbighshire County Council under its Managing Health Needs Policy (MHN) and coordinated in conjunction with the council’s school nurse manager and specialist nurse manager.

The session will aim to provide school staff in all roles with an understanding of how to help with the management of children and young people with specific medical needs.

This includes asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, anaphylaxis and continence.

Attendees will also learn about the council’s MHN policy, which obliges schools to support pupils with healthcare needs and ensure minimal disruption to their education.

Any member of staff within a Denbighshire school, including teachers, teaching assistants, admin staff and more are invited.

Schools can choose to send as many staff as they feel appropriate to the sessions.

The session is being piloted for the year and replaces the generic training run by specialist school nurses previously.

The session will take place from 10am to 2.45pm on Friday, September and Monday, September 17.
