ARTS AND EVENTS

Monday, August 27: Whittington Village Fete at Whittington Castle.

This year’s annual Whittington Village Fete takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27 from 12pm to 4pm at Whittington Castle.

Organisers Whittington Together will be crowning the Fete Queen at 12noon before a variety of entertainment will begin.

This year sees the Llay Welfare Band, maypole dancing, re-enactors, bouncy castles, stalls and refreshments.

This year the theme of the Fete will be Whittington’s tribute to 100 years since the end of the First World War.

A special feature of the fete this year will be a cascade of poppies down Whittington Castle, a tribute to those who did not come home and to those who changed people’s lives. The fete is free entry and free car parking.

CINEMA

Wednesday, August 22 (7.30pm) and Thursday, August 23 (1.30pm): Incredibles 2 (PG) at Kinokulture Cinema, Arthur Street, Oswestry.

Helen is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob navigates the day-to-day heroics of ‘normal’ life at home with Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack.

Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge.

Tickets cost £5-£7. For more information visit www.ticketsource.co.uk or call 01691 238167.

Thursday, August 23 (7.30pm): Jeune Femme (15) at Kinokulture Cinema, Arthur Street, Oswestry.

Neurotic and manic, bold and magnetic, Paula is a muddle of contradictions. Fresh from an unceremonious dumping by her boyfriend of 10 years, she finds herself wandering the streets of Paris – jobless, homeless and single – with no idea of what life holds for her next. At 31 years old, with little to show for it but a kidnapped cat and a sense of adventure, she sets out to reinvent herself – new job, new friends, new life – and finds that these things never do come easily.

Tickets cost £5-£7. For more information visit www.ticketsource.co.uk or call 01691 238167.

Saturday, August 25 (7.30pm): Swimming With Men (12A) at Kinokulture Cinema, Arthur Street, Oswestry.

Unlucky in love, Eric (Rob Brydon) holds nothing back when he plunges into the all-male synchronised swimming scene to win back his wife, Heather (Horrocks). A mid-life crisis leads him to join a group of middle-aged men in the local pool as they train for the world championships in Milan. Newfound confidence grows and friendships blossom as the team give everything they’ve got to master ‘the flower’ and ‘the spinning circle’.

Tickets cost £5-£7. For more information visit www.ticketsource.co.uk or call 01691 238167.
