KNIGHTS dressed in amour descended on Abergele this week for Gwrych Castle's Medieval Festival.

Warrior princess, The Lady Anwen of Anglesey, added a dramatic touch to the family event as she road into the combat arena on horseback.

On the Saturday, the festival attracted about 3000 visitors.

Crowds cheered on as Sir Wyn of Conwy and Estienne de Guerre did battle in the armed combat arena and Diane Woodrow, education and community engagement officer, had visitors "enthralled" with her colourful tales of Welsh medieval folklore.

This was the third Medieval Festival hosted by the castle.

Dr Mark Baker, chair of Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust, said: "It has been fantastic. We had almost 3000 visitors on the Saturday.

"It’s been amazing to see so many visitors coming to enjoy and support the castle.

"Our vision is to enable greater regulated public access so that people can experience their heritage."

The festival, which also ran today (Sunday), featured birds of prey, a children’s sword fighting school, re-enactors, guided tours, a magician, horses and more.
