A WEEKEND of high-flying family fun is in store as an annual charity event.

Oswestry Balloon Carnival will boast 32 hot air balloons that will take off from Cae Glas Park on August 25 and 26, raising funds for Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham.

The balloons will be taking off from Cae Glas Park, weather permitting, and 6am and 6pm on both days.

Saturday's highlight will be an evening night glow at 9pm, where the balloons light up to music and visitors can buy glow and flashing merchandise from the Nightingale House Stalls to get themselves in the spirit of the event and help raise funds for the hospice.

Among the array of balloons that are set to take flight over the weekend are Tall Steve the Penguin, Wes the Wolf and a Panasonic battery-shaped aircraft.

A spokesman for the carnival said: "It's not just about the balloons though - come along to enjoy a continental street market, family fun in the park, street food and music throughout the town centre from 9am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday."

Draw tickets are available to purchase for £1 a ticket during the weekend. Prizes to be won are a balloon ride for two, a weekend in a Woodland Lodge at Henlle Hall, £100 voucher for Sweeney Hall and a drone worth more than £100 and many more prizes.

Tickets can be purchased beforehand from the retailers listed on the event's website, or during the balloon carnival weekend.

Programmes will also be on sale which include information about the balloons, full itinerary of the weekend, a detailed map of all the carnival's attractions.

These programme are available at the balloon carnival weekend from all Nightingale House Hospice stalls.
