Former Ellesmere College hockey star Caro Hulme has been named in the Wales Senior Women's Hockey squad which flies out to Vilnius on Friday evening for the FIH Open Series Round One starting next week.

This follows two months of rigorous training including match series against Ireland, South Africa and Poland.

Caro, who plays in midfield, was a member of the Wales team that returned from Poznan last week, following a 3-0 test series win over the Poles.

In the forthcoming tournament, Wales will play Turkey on Tuesday, August 21, Ukraine on Wednesday, August 23, Czech Republic three days later, and the home nation, Lithuania 24 hours later.

All games are to be live streamed.

Wales will be hoping to secure qualification to one of the three hockey series finals which will be hosted next year. Success in the competition could gain coveted World ranking points.

Caro made her Senior international debut for Wales in the recent Commonwealth Games and is one of three former Wrexham players named in the 18-strong squad.

The others include fellow teenager, Izzie Howell and experienced defender, Xenna Hughes, daughter of former Stoke City and now Southampton manager, Mark Hughes.

It has been a busy time for Caro and her twin sister Lottie, who is part of the Wales under-23 and Senior Development squad.

The Hulme sisters are both members of the Beeston first team squad, and will return to Nottingham at the end of the month, as the east Midlands club prepare for life in the top flight of England women's hockey.

Beeston gained promotion to the Premiership of the Investec Women's National League after winning the play-offs in Birmingham at the end of April. The new season gets under way on September 29.
