Downpours didn’t dampen festival-goers’ spirits as the crowds enjoyed a whole range of activities at Ellesmere Festival last weekend.

Chris Scott, organiser of the three-day event, said: “The townsfolk and shop traders said that it was a success with a large amount of visitors present, in spite of the weather.

“Heavy rain on the Friday did not deter visitors to the craft market and art exhibition with a wide selection of quality items on display and available for purchase.

“Saturday and Sunday saw large numbers of traders narrow boats lining the towpath which led to a free canal boat trip provided by the Canal and River trust. An unusual way of crossing the canal was provided by a floating pontoon, which took visitors to the historic workshops,to view the working forge and pattern shop.

“In the town hall people of all ages were entertained by some superb model railway layouts on display, including the Ellesmere Model Railway club’s own layout based on Truro railway station.

“With the addition of street entertainers, magicians and fairground organs playing, Ellesmere was the place to be.”
