A ROTARY Club has welcomed a new president.

Geoff Barre took the helm as president of Borderland Rotary Club, replacing Sherie Soper.

A spokesman hailed Ms Soper's term in office, with highlights including the Oswestry Fireworks in November and the Christmas Parade.

The spokesman added: "It was also an opportunity to present the Paul Harris Fellowship award to two members and Lady Trevor was on hand to do the presentation.

"Paul Fellows was the founder of the Rotary movement and the award, named in his honour, is to recognise distinguished service and commitment to the club and its principals.

"Harry Richardson and Paul Evison are both long term members who have served the club tirelessly for all of this century and quite a bit more."
