Scarecrows will be scattered across Ifton Meadows to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the greenspace.

The Ifton Meadows Nature Fun Day, which takes place on Sunday, August 19 will see a scarecrow competition and plenty of other activities taking over the Nature Reserve in St Martins.

In 1978, Ifton Meadows was opened as a greenspace following reclamation and regrading of the spoil heap from Ifton Colliery which closed in 1968.

To mark the anniversary the Friends of Ifton Meadows have organised the fun day, which takes place from 12pm to 4pm, with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.

There will be cash prizes for the winners of the scarecrow competition, as well as entertainment from The Silverman and a storyteller, music by Fizz Gigs and The Gracechurch Georgian Dancers.

There will also be a chance to go on a guided nature walk, make bug boxes and much more.

Refreshments will be available.
