CHILDREN of all ages were let loose in Wrexham town for a day of fun at the annual Play Day.

Playday is a national play event in the UK and as well as a celebration of the right to play, it is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives.

It is coordinated by Play England, in partnership with Play Wales, Play Scotland and PlayBoard Northern Ireland.

Wrexham celebrates it each year and Wrexham Council Play Development Team hold a large scale, free and open access play event from 12pm to 4pm in the town centre on Queen’s Square and Llwyn Isaf.

This year there was a giant sandpit, a slip and slide, den building, artwork, chalk drawing, games and puzzles, plus many more activities.

Wrexham Mayor, Andy Williams, said: "This is a nation wide scheme. It's lovely to see the green here being used to children for play on and to see so many different activities working together."

Suzanne Hooson, Johnstown, said: "It's brilliant coming here with the children. It's so messy so it doesn't matter about the weather so long as it's warm."

Rebecca Chesters, whose children were enjoying drawing in chalk along the pavement, said: "It's nice to see lots of people actually enjoying Wrexham."
