It is Festival time again in Ellesmere.

A full weekend of events that should have something of interest to everyone. On all three days, Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of August there will be a large gathering of decorated canal narrow boats alongside the towpath, offering a wide selection of wares, even a pizza boat, as well as boats selling cheeses and chutney. Beware of the Pirate Boat, you may have to

walk the plank!

In the Market Hall local artists will be putting their work on show, together with a large craft market featuring the varied talents of

our local artisans, ranging from woodcraft, watercolours, jewellery and tempting fudge.

In addition to the above, on the Saturday and Sunday, a Model Railway exhibition will be held in the Town Hall ( admission charges will apply).

Down at the wharf a charity market is being held supporting local charities and organisations. Stroll down the towpath and

experience a novel way of crossing the canal to the historic workshops opened for the weekend by the Canal and River Trust, free of charge, where the forge will be in operation together with guided walks around the site.

Free canal boat trips will also be available.

Feeling peckish? At the wharf will be delicious ice cream from a " stop me and buy one" tricycle , a crepe van and other tempting food stalls, all accompanied by the strains of a vintage fairground organ.

Street entertainers will be parading around the town, and also a street magician.

On Sunday the day starts at 10.am with a combined churches open air service at the Wharf, followed by a large classic car show. Come along and revive a few of your motoring memories.

The " Shropshire Boatmen" will entertain you with canal based songs at 1pm at the wharf and at 3pm at the Canal Workshops against a background of the oldest surviving fly boat, " Saturn "

Local hostelries will be making you welcome and The White Hart in Birch Road will be holding a Real Ale Beer festival on all three days with live music on Friday and Saturday.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of the weekend and visit the Ellesmere Methodist Chapel, in Trimpley for their Festival of Flowers on all three days, culminating in a songs of praise at 5.30pm on Sunday.
