THE new and old sections of the Horseshoe Pass have been closed as firefighters continue to battle a huge mountainside blaze.

The incident in Llantysilio, Llangollen, was first reported at about 2.20pm on Thursday, July 19.

A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed just after 9.30am today (Saturday, July 28) that 12 appliances were in attendance at the scene, adding: "Please only call us if you see source of fire or flames - could be smoke from Llantysilio.

"Thanks for your continued cooperation."

This evening North Wales Fire and Rescue Service announced that nine appliances remain at the site and that smoke is still drifting far afield.

Shortly before 8pm, a spokesman for North Wales Police stated: "Due to a change in wind direction it has been required to close the new as well as the old Horse Shoe Pass sections of road.

"Please continue to avoid the area. Thanks for your cooperation."
