Members of the NASUWT-The Teachers’ Union at three schools in the Ceirog Valley Federation in Wrexham are taking strike action today over redundancies and potential job loss.

The three schools are Pontfadog Primary School, Ysgol Cynddelw and Ysgol Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog.

Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT, said: “NASUWT members at the three schools in the Ceiriog Valley Federation have not taken the decision to take strike action lightly.

“They feel they have no other option than to take this strike action in a bid to protect their jobs and the continued provision of high-quality education for pupils.

“We remain ready to work with the employer to find a resolution to this dispute.”

Rex Phillips, NASUWT national official for Wales, said:“We have made every effort to secure an agreed way forward through genuine negotiation, but there has been no real attempt by the employer to resolve the situation.

“Our members should not be experiencing the distress and anxiety of not knowing what the future holds for them and their families as the means of avoiding compulsory redundancy within the Ceiriog Valley Federation remains available to the Governing Body.

“The NASUWT continues to remain committed to further negotiations but the employer must seek to protect the livelihoods of our members rather continuing to place their jobs in jeopardy.”
