Highways England is hoping improvements to Maesbury Road junction will be completed in just under two weeks.

The roadworks, which started at the beginning of March, are expected to finish before the school summer holidays begin on July 20, said a Highways England spokesman.

At the same time, work at the notorious Mile End roundabout has also started, with roads being closed from 8pm to 6am to widen the approach from the north.

This work is also set to finish by July 20.

Businesses have criticised the Maesbury Road work, claiming it has forced shoppers away from the industrial estate and take their custom elsewhere.

The Highways England spokesman said: “We’re improving the layout of the Maesbury Road junction and installing traffic signals to smooth the flow of traffic, reduce queuing on either side of the A483 and improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists.

“An additional lane will be added in both the north and southbound directions and street lighting will also be upgraded.

“There will also be drainage work to prevent flooding.

“We’re also widening the approach to the roundabout from Wrexham. We’ll also be renewing the road markings and reviewing signage. These works will take place overnight.”
