Pupils at a primary school have used their creative skills to help spread the message about recycling.

Children at Bryn Offa Church of England School in Pant donned their thinking caps to come up with ways of making planters from recycled materials.

Teacher Caroline Prior told how the competition was a way of enhancing the look of the school for the summer.

Children from the ages of four to 11 took part in the event.

First place went to Year 1 pupil Drew Edwards, who created a planter from an old toy car.

There were three runners-up – Will Roberts (Year 5), his brother Huw (Year 3) and Imogen Wills (Year 5).

Year 4 pupil Patrik Keegan was third with a planter fashioned from an old blackboard.

Mrs Prior said that there were some “really innovative” entries, adding: “It was really nice that some pupils that have never entered a competition in school before entered their first competition.”
