A HOST of events are in store at Oswestry Library.

The Summer Reading Challenge 2018 launches on July 14 with the theme of "Mischief Makers" , based on the Beano.

The challenge is a free national incentive scheme, created by the Reading Agency and delivered by libraries. Children can sign up to read six books of their choice over the summer, to win an incentive for every two books read, and then a gold medal and certificate at completion. Shropshire Libraries also runs a teenage and adult reading challenge alongside, and events will be held at the library throughout the summer, with details to be announced soon.

Also coming soon are several Learning at Lunchtime events from 12.30-1.30pm, including a talk by Wendy Lowdon from on July 5 on Australia's involvement in the Second World War.

On July 11, author Natalie Cumming will trace the path of a precious violin across landscapes devastated by war and terror, to safety and restoration in 21st century Britain, while Pam Johnson will talk about Romeo & Juliet on July 12.

All Learning at Lunchtime sessions are £3 per head and must be booked with library staff.

Groups such as St John's Ambulance, Healthwatch, Macmillan Cancer Support and Home Instead Dementia Support will hold drop-in sessions during July.
