A young woman suffered a head injury after being hit by a car moments after getting off a bus in Chirk.

The woman, who is in her early 20s, was struck by a Vauxhall Meriva on the B5070 Holyhead Road, opposite the Poachers pub, just before noon on Wednesday.

She is believed to have got off the bus before crossing the road towards the pub, when she was then hit.

The woman suffered a head injury, as well as cuts and bruises to her back and shoulder, and was taken by air ambulance to North Staffordshire Hospital.

The road was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to attend the scene.

A spokesperson said: "The police would like to thank a passing nurse who provided first aid and several members of the public who assisted ensuring the casualty remained still until paramedics arrived."
