A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman - thought to be in her twenties - was struck by a vehicle on the B5070 opposite The Poachers pub, Chirk Bank shortly before midday (Wednesday, June 20).

The woman is believed to have got off the bus before crossing the road towards the pub, when she was struck by a Vauxhall Meriva car.

The woman suffered a head injury along with cuts and bruises to her back and shoulder.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend the scene,  and the woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "We would like to thank a passing nurse who provided first aid and several members of the public who assisted ensuring the casualty remained still until paramedics arrived."

A car driver was assessed at the scene but did not need treatment, A West Midland Ambulance Service spokesman added.

An ambulance, paramedic officer and community first responder were sent to the scene.

The Welsh Ambulance Service also attended.

The road was closed in both directions between Gledrid Island (A5) and Chirk, but police confirmed at about 3.20pm that it had reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Lewis Carpenter on 101 West Mercia Police ext 5325.
