Two members of staff at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital have been hailed Standout Stars by the NHS Confederation.

Pip Page-Davies, staff nurse, and Paula Irving, patient admission coordinator, at the Oswestry-based hospital were named as one of healthcare’s Top 70 Stars.

The Top 70 Stars initiative celebrates the staff within healthcare that have gone the extra mile for patients, services and local communities over the last seven decades.

NHS Confederation, a membership body who bring together organisations that plan, commission and provide NHS services, launched the awards as part of the NHS’s 70th birthday celebrations.

A total of 238 nominations were submitted, which then went to public vote to produce the top 70.

Antony Tiernan, director of engagement and communications at NHS England, who is also leading on NHS70 celebration plans, announced the Top 70 at an NHS7Tea party at NHS Confederation’s annual conference, Confed18, on Thursday June 14.

Two other members of Orthopaedic staff were also nominated in the awards – Rebecca Warren, Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI) ward manager, and Kate Betts, rehabilitation technician on MCSI.

Pip, who works on the specialist oncology ward at the Orthopaedic, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been named as a Top 70 Standout Star.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you for my nomination and also to everyone who voted for me.

“I love my job; I’m very privileged to meet the people I do and to work with a great team. I’m very proud to be a nurse.”

Paula said: “I was so overwhelmed to make the list and have my role recognised, both in the Orthopaedic and nationally.

“It was an honour and privilege to attend Confed18 and I am very proud to be part of the Orthopaedic Hospital and the NHS.”

Mark Brandreth, chief executive, said: “It’s always brilliant to see our Orthopaedic staff nominated and shortlisted in national awards – it really reiterates how extraordinary the people are that work here.

“I’d like to say huge congratulations to both Pip and Paula for being named as Top 70 stars and also to Rebecca and Kate for being nominated.”
