A popular hotel on the outskirts of Oswestry is the latest to join the bid of ditching plastic in favour of paper straws.

Manager Sean Evans of the Sweeney Hall Hotel at Morda, Oswestry has taken the delivery of his first biodegradable straws to do away with the present plastic straws.

The Sweeney Hall has joined the campaign to remove, recycle or reduce the use of plastics and straws are one of the biggest polluters after plastic bags.

Plastic straws can stay in the ground for 500 years where as The Bio Straw Co biodegradable straws made from crushed shells as a waste product from other processes and will breakdown in about 146 days to become an organic fertiliser.

The bio straws are supplied from a company in Chester so if any other restaurants or pub chains would like to see samples then please see www.thebiostrawco.com for details. They are also looking into supplying other non-plastic alternatives.
