A water leak is Weston Rhyn is to be fixed later this week.

Residents in Threadneedle Street reported to the Advertizer that a leak at the car park entrance of The Court Nursing Home began as a trickle but rapidly developed, saying that "gallons of water is being wasted daily".

The public was told that Severn Trent Water were waiting for permission from Shropshire Council to install temporary traffic lights at the site of the leak to safely enable a correction.

One resident, Michael Davis, who lives opposite the nursing home, said he had emailed Shropshire Council Transport and Highways Portfolio Holder Steve Charmley.

"I told him about this problem and the lack of action by Severn Trent as I simply cannot believe it takes weeks for Shropshire Council to give permission for temporary traffic lights.

"As a customer of Severn Trent I am angry and frustrated at the lack of action."

Shropshire Council has now confirmed that work has been agreed with Severn Trent Water and is to be carried out this week, starting on Friday, June 22 outside the nursing home.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: "Our teams have been out and investigated a leak on Threadneedle Street, and have raised follow on work to return and repair the pipe.

“The burst pipe is not causing any supply issues for our customers, but we’re sorry if this is causing any inconvenience to anyone. Our priority will be to fix the pipe and get everything back to normal as quickly as we can.”
