Concerned residents have called for work to stop at a Park Hall building site after an unexploded bomb was discovered – the second in two weeks.

West Mercia Police blocked Artillery Road in Park Hall on Monday after builders on a Chartland Homes development in Park Crescent discovered another wartime shell.

The Bomb Disposal Team was called to the scene to dispose of the item safely.

A similar incident occurred on June 5, when the Bomb Disposal Team were called to the site in Park Crescent.

Residents of Park Crescent have now called for the work by Chartland Homes to stop so the site can be fully investigated before any more work carries on.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the building developers did not take the concerns of the residents seriously before the work began.

"Chartland Homes did not take seriously correspondence at the planning stage which highlighted the risk of discarded ammunition on this building site," said the resident.

"They have put local residents and their own staff at risk. Everyone around here is disappointed with them as a company.

"Artillery Road is named for a reason. From World War One onwards this area was a designated firing range for artillery. Artillery would fire into the bank at the bottom of Artillery Road and many shells I guess would land short in the area where Chartland are digging. The rest of Park Hall is flat but the camber of the land here was seen as ideal both for artillery and use as a rifle range. A neighbour's children have found bullets lying on the surface where Chartland have been digging.

"We residents believe the whole site should be shut down until a metal detector has done a thorough investigation and that a responsible developer would have done this in the first place and not cut corners."

Chartland Homes have been contacted for a comment.
