Since the column took a summer break, there's been a few managerial changes and people starting in jobs.

I think it was a brave decision to take the Rangers job by Steven Gerrard, where he must have had assurances from the board. It's whether he can close that gap on Celtic, and implement the style of football he's had for his whole life.

He's made some signings already and it'll be interesting to see how that works out, but it's whether he'll get his way over loan signings and big signings.

You've got Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham who has lots of experience with Real Madrid and obviously winning the Premier League with Manchester City. Frank Lampard at Derby is an exciting one too. He was an intelligent footballer and I enjoy listening to him when he's a pundit on BT Sport.

He talks sense and it will be interesting to see how he gets on with a good club and good backers.

Marco Silva at Everton will be interesting; he's had spells at two Premier League clubs now and he started really well at Watford, though obviously didn't finish how we wanted it to. He'll hopefully get his stamp on things.
