A CHARITY that helps children with movement difficulties has set a fundraising challenge.

The Movement Centre, based near Oswestry, has invited people to sign up for a canal walk on Sunday, July 1.

Walkers will start from the Lions Quay Hotel in Weston Rhyn and follow the canal from Morton Bridge, turning round at the Pontcysylte Aqueduct in Trevor.

Curtis Langley, fundraising and marketing officer for the centre, said: "After testing the route last month I am looking forward to people experiencing the views on offer. Walking just over 11 miles, we will finish in Weston Rhyn where walkers will be met by some beautiful cakes, scones, tea and coffee.

"The afternoon tea is kindly being provided and served by our volunteer, Doreen who has taken part in many fundraising events for the Movement Centre, such as walking up Snowdon, but this year wanted to do something a little different. So afternoon tea it was”.

People signing up to the walk will be walking over two aqueducts, venturing through a 420 metre long tunnel and take in views of the River Dee.

For some children it can enable them to walk, which means they can be far more independent.

Due to space the event will be limited to 40 people, and spaces are already filling up.

Entry for the walk and afternoon tea is £5, and walkers asked to try to raise a minimum of £25 through sponsorship.

The charity- which is located at the RJAH in Gobowen - provides a specialist therapy, called Targeted Training, to children who face problems with their movement control.

By attending the Movement Centre, children can gain head control, so they can interact with their family; it can help children develop the skills to sit unaided, so that they can play with their friends.
