After the news that Arriva Trains Wales has been taken over by European companies, the chairman of Friends of Chirk Station has said that she is looking forward to working with the new services.

The contract is a joint venture between France's Keolis and Spanish owned Amey. The contract will run for 15 years.

Christine Ashford from the Friends of Chirk Station said: "We have happily served 14 years under Arriva Trains Wales and their Adopt a Station initiative.

"This is a new era for Friends of Chirk Station but I am sure that the new rail providers will be happy with the care and attention we give to our station. France, Spain and Wales working together – sounds good to us.

"We are now busy planting up all the station and about to start on this year's floral displays including 100 years of the RAF.

"We are also working with the Royal British Legion north Wales fundraising team on this year's 'Thank You' campaign in commemoration of the end of the First World War.
