Chirk Library celebrated their 45th year in Chapel Lane.

The ‘birthday bash’ was a great success, and saw Councillor Terry Evans welcome visitors and recount his earliest memories of the present site which was allotments for the Scouts.

A short but very interesting talk was given by local historian Graham Greasley on the history of the library service and of Chirk library in particular. A grand raffle was drawn for prizes donated by the businesses of Chirk and the proceeds were given to the Wales Air Ambulance. £600 in total and we thank all who supported this worthy cause. The children were treated to a special story time before they took part in treasure hunts around the library. Everyone enjoyed refreshments which included the obligatory birthday cake.

A special tribute to a reader who has moved away was unveiled, in the form of tatted snowflakes made by Betty MacKinnon, who has made one for the library every year for the last twelve years.

Library staff Carolyn Meredith and Liz Jones said: “Thank you to everyone involved, including the businesses for donating prizes and everyone who attended, and we look forward to another 45 years!”
