Pensioners who are under the care of Meadowbrook Care Home in Gobowen are being fed "inadequate food" it has been reported.

Angela Rochester, whose 88-year-old mother is a resident, told the Advertizer the home is serving up food which has been overcooked and isn't edible.

She said: "The food is not edible and it does not meet the menu which they provide. If people had any issues with eating they would struggle because it is not soft enough. My mother has alzheimers and diabetes but there are no options for people who are diabetic or have dietary requirements with the food being so inedible."

Angela raised the issue with staff in October last year but nothing has improved, she has also met one-on-one with the cook to talk about the food they are serving.

Angela added: "My mother is not being fed adequately and she is distressed. Its not just my mum either, another relative said she wouldn't even give the food to her dog it's that bad.

"Other relatives said the food is absolutely disgusting and like me, they complain everyday. If we go for a meal that is awful we won't go back to that place but my mother and the other residents have to eat there every single day and she isn't being fed properly.

"It has been going on since last summer, why have they still got a contract with Elior I do not know. Even the chef in the kitchen admitted it was unacceptable."

The catering at Meadowbrook Care Home is provided by Elior UK who prides itself on serving food which is 'safe and healthy, sustainably produced and ethically sourced'.

A spokesperson for Elior said: “We have a good reputation for the quality and variety of wholesome dishes we serve, and take instances where we don’t live up to these high standards very seriously.

“Having investigated the complaint, we’ve offered to meet Ms. Rochester to discuss the matter further. We are working with our team on site, giving extra training and putting steps in place to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

A spokesman for Meadowbrook Care Home said: "We aim to give our residents a good experience in all aspects of care and so, like Elior, we are concerned that Ms. Rochester has been disappointed by food offered to her mother.

"We have been in discussion about this with Elior and together we would like to meet with her to explain the measures that are being taken to ensure a good dining experience every time.”
