North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson has said he is pleased to be back to work.

The Conservative backbencher suffered a broken neck after he fell from his horse in January.

He spent several weeks at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen, before recuperating at home. He made his first public appearance at the Oswestry Civic Dinner last month sporting a neck brace.

But this week he returned to Parliament and attended Prime Minister's Questions.

Mr Paterson also took part in several meetings before spending the day in his constituency on Friday.

He told the Advertizer: "I'm back into it properly now. I have always said you can't come back into this half-heartedly.

"This week I've met with Oswestry Town Council clerk David Preston and assistant clerk Arren Roberts to talk about health issues, as well as hosting a meeting with transport minister Jesse Norman to talk about dualling the A5/A483, bringing a bypass to Pant and Llanymynech, and the new North West Relief Road in Shrewsbury.

"I've just hosted my Oswestry Health Group meeting today and now I'm off to meet with headteachers."

Mr Paterson continued: "I've had lots of wellwishers, particularly this week, but I have to praise the team at the Orthopaedic - I wouldn't be here without them."
