A beavers group from St Martins recently had a visit from two hot air balloons.

St Martins Beavers were thrilled to welcome the balloons from Lindstrand and Cloud 9.

Scout leader and employee at Lindstrand Balloons, Luis Arias arranged the event, causing quite a stir opposite the scout hut on the playing fields behind Stan’s.

Luis said: “It took quite a bit of organising – and good weather - to pull the event off, but it was worth it to see the kids’ reactions.”

There were smiles all round and several dads were on hand to join in and make the visit a success, helping to keep the balloons secure and allow small groups of children the opportunity to get in the basket.

Dad, Karl Evans said: “It was a great evening; I don’t know who enjoyed it more, me or my daughters!”

Luis explained the simple science behind the magic of ballooning. The children learned about the lightweight material that makes a hot air balloon, how the burner works to heat up the air, making it less dense than the cool air around it, causing it to rise up into the sky.

The 2nd St Martins Beavers group meet on Mondays at 5pm to 6pm, Cubs meet Mondays at 6:15pm to 7:30pm, and Scouts meet on Wednesdays 7pm to 8:30pm in winter, extending to 9pm in the summer.
