Families gathered at Shropshire Sailing Club in Ellesmere to enjoy a day of free sailing.

There were smiles all round as the sun shone just in time for the Push the Boat Out event.

All kit and safety equipment was provided by the club, leaving people to get stuck in and enjoy the sense of adventure.

Colin Smith, Shropshire SC commodore, said: “All sorts of people come to our open day.

“There were families with children of all ages and couples to pensioners looking to either return to sailing after years away or looking for something to keep them active.

“It has grown from a very local event, with details being spread by word of mouth, to being part of a much bigger national effort. As a result, we now regularly get more than 100 visitors for the open day.

“A lot of people who have never sailed before try it and get hooked, with many going on to join us.”

Almost 400 venues across the UK invited people to Push the Boat Out events.
