Our NEIGHBOURS Wrexham have moved to appoint Sam Ricketts as their new boss.

I've just started my pro-licence with him and he had been working at Wolves under-23s. It's a bit of jump for him to go from coaching academy footballers to being in charge of the day-to-day running of the club.

He's going from working with 19-21 year olds to his first job in one of the most high profile names in the National League.

I wish him all the best in it; he seems a very nice lad and is a young ambitious coach who had a good career.

I think it's great that Wrexham have taken a chance on a great young coach like Sam and it gives me hope for young coaches everywhere, like me.

He's a good coach with good experience behind him as Football League and Premier League footballer, as well as also being an international footballer with plenty of caps behind him.

Sam has had a great career and he's obviously an excellent coach because otherwise Wrexham wouldn't have given him the job because they've already got excellent coaches there, including former TNS man Carl Darlington.

He's obviously got good man-management skills too to put him in the job ahead of probably some more high-profile names and more experienced candidates.

I think it's a bold move by Wrexham. It was a sad end to their season when Dean Keates left to go to Walsall and they fell down the league and they should be challenging for promotion every year; Sam is only going to be as good as his squad.
