Flintshire rock bands are aiming to strum-um a drum full of cash to help pay for specialist brain tumour treatment for the drummer of Deeside band B4 Time.

Andy Jones, 44, a former DHL Flint worker, was given the devastating news he had an aggressive cancerous brain tumour in December 2016.

But according to B4 Time lead singer Mel Griffiths, 46, of Broughton, having undergone brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy Andy’s tumour continues to grow.

He said: “Having undergone further surgery Andy, who is married to Nicola, they have one daughter, is now having further treatment unavailable on the NHS. The family set up a justgiving crowd funding page with the aim of raising the £30,000 he needed for treatment.

“We have actually raised just a little over that figure now but any money not used to pay for Andy’s treatment will go toward brain tumour research.

“As a band we were thrilled that other Flintshire rock bands agreed to join us for the charity gig and the Tivoli management have been fantastic by letting us use the venue for free. The bands all perform original and rock song covers.

“We have fellow Flintshire bands, Master Fate, Blind Justice, Gokart Commandos, Not Guilty and Soundstate who are all appearing for free at the Saturday, 31st March Tivoli gig.”

He added: “It’s not been easy as we are having to work out sharing some equipment, we can’t have six drum kits on stage for instance. And we are working on the sound system to make it easier on the night.

“The plan is to rock the Tiv and raise as much as we can for Andy’s treatment. He’s a top guy and we want him in remission as soon as possible.”

Tivoli manager Leighton Openshaw says he was only too happy to help when the plan for the charity gig was first mooted.

He said: “It’s a great idea and we were keen to play our part. Hopefully the night will raise a great deal of money that can go toward Andy’s treatment.

“The logistics of having six bands playing at one gig isn’t easy but we can work it out and we will have DJ Mick Johnson holding things together in between sets.”

Tickets which are £10 are available from any of the bands, www.tivolivenue.com or www.seetickets.com or call the box office on 01244 546201 or the 24 hour booking line on 08444 77 1000.
