The organisers of Shrewsbury half marathon, UK Run Events, have announced that there is still time to enter the event taking place on Sunday June 17 this year.

With three months until race day, 3,500 places are filling fast and runners are being encouraged to secure their spot on their start line of this picturesque half marathon.

Shrewsbury half marathon offers a wonderful combination of history and scenery, the course taking runners through Shrewsbury’s medieval city centre and out into the stunning Shropshire countryside.

The event was taken over by UKRunChat in 2016 to great success, and each year attracts both returning and new runners to #RunShrewsbury. With huge community support, one of the most scenic half marathon routes in the UK and a first-class race village at the Shropshire County Showground, it is a fantastic date for the summer diary.

Three months is the perfect amount of time to train for a half marathon, with many 12-week training plans available to help competitors get race fit by the summer. It is also a great time of year to start training, with the longer and warmer days providing extra motivation to get out there and run. From beginner runners through to experienced half marathon runners, the 13.1-mile race is an ideal summer goal and a team of pacers will be present on the day to ensure runners achieve their targets and support chosen charities.

Race director Joe Williams said: “We are excited that it is now just three months until the 2018 Shrewsbury half marathon, making this the perfect time to sign up and get training in time for June. The arrival of spring is always welcome as it brings renewed motivation to run, so a summer half marathon in somewhere as beautiful as Shrewsbury is a fantastic goal. This will be our third year of organising Shrewsbury half marathon and we are looking forward to delivering the biggest and best event yet.”

For the first time this year, the event will include the Shrewsbury half marathon Corporate Challenge in collaboration with Shrewsbury Business Park. The Corporate Challenge is open to businesses of all sizes wanting to enter a team of one to five runners and enjoy getting fit whilst training together, working together and taking on colleagues or rival businesses.

The 2018 Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon has also been launched in association with Shrewsbury half marathon. Taking place the day before the half marathon race, this is a unique chance for children aged four to 11 to complete their very own cumulative half marathon and enjoy the full race experience. The first 12 miles of the challenge are completed at their school and the final 1.1 miles will be run at the Shropshire County Showground on Saturday June 16.

General entry costs £28 (affiliated) or £30 (non-affiliated), plus a booking fee. Entry includes a bespoke medal, technical t-shirt, goody bag, free pre- and post-race massages and free race photos (worth £19.99).
