The biggest dog show in the country recently returned to Birmingham's NEC to welcome breeds big and small to compete.

Crufts started in 1891 and has grown ever since welcoming dog-breeds from all-around the world.

But more locally, there was more than one-hundred dog-owners from the region entering the competition.

Katie Jones from Oswestry competed in the dog agility with her five-year-old Crossbreed Dylan. Even though it was their first time at Crufts, they were not ruff around the edges and they bagged third place.

Katie said: "It was the first time we had competed and I was feeling very nervous, the arena was massive and there were a lot of people watching as well as the people watching on TV and YouTube. We had a programme of fitness for Dylan and he went through conditioning work where we train in Wrexham. We have been competing for four years but for Crufts specifically we started to prepare six weeks beforehand. We qualified for Crufts by taking part in the ABC competition and we ended in the top 10.

"I am really pleased we've come third, my goal was to finish in the top three. Dylan is quite a nervous dog so I didn't know how he was going to react with all the people around him and camera crew but he was fine.

"After we competed we looked around the show and he got lots of attention. I really enjoyed it and we will try again next year, we are hooked now!"

Mrs Jacqueline Barbara Evans from Oswestry entered her 12 month-old curly-coated Retriever, Disco, in the Junior Dog class and received third place.

She said: "He's called disco for a reason, he danced his way around the ring he was so excited and would not keep still. I really enjoyed it, it was amazing."
