Councillors praised the hard work that went into Oswestry Youth Music Festival after another record-breaking year.

At last week's meeting Oswestry town councillors discussed the event that took place across Oswestry's Methodist Church, Christchurch and Holy Trinity, despite the Beast from the East sweeping in and covering the county in snow.

This year's festival saw over 435 competitors taking part, with an extra day added to accommodate the larger classes.

Oswestry town mayor, Councillor Vince Hunt, said: "This event is now national, and it always does very well.

"My thanks go to Cllr Sandy Best, who stepped in as deputy mayor as I was snowed in.

"Well done to councillors for organising the event and for everyone who took place. It's another feather in the cap of the town."

Cllr Peter Cherrington said that next year's event will be even bigger.

"There are plans to increase the event from Wednesday through to Sunday, adding an extra day for all the competitors.

"It's a wonderful event that has gone from strength to strength over the years."

Councillors also wished to outline their gratitude to their parents and children that attended the four-day event.

"The talent was absolutely outstanding and very enjoyable," added Cllr Steve Mason.

"Considering the weather conditions, there was a great effort by both the parents and children to attend the festival, so to them we are very grateful."
