A 80-year-old woman from Oswestry has received a big 'thank you' from Age UK.

Janet Sargeant has volunteered at the charity shop for 25 years and the work she has put into keeping the shop tidy hasn't gone unnoticed.

She volunteered at the Wrexham store for 10 years and carried on when she moved to Oswestry.

"When I moved up here I wanted to do something to keep me busy and thought of Age UK", she said.

"I really enjoy it and you meet lots of people and have a laugh. I volunteer on Thursday and Fridays but I also enjoy the Christmas parties when all staff and volunteers get together.

"I think it's important to volunteer because people are on their own a lot so it gets you out of the house and it helps the charities. Not everyone can buy top-of-the-range brands so it helps people with the more affordable items we have here."

Janet said over the past 25 years the smiles and laughter the volunteering brings has been the best part. Her years of hard work was awarded with a framed certificate, bouquet of flowers and some chocolates.

Shirley Cooper from Age UK said: "The store here on Bailey Street has just been refurbished so it is looking much nicer for customers. We are always looking for volunteers so if anyone is interested come in and see us.

"We are also always open to donations, we take clothes, homeware, books, DVDs, CDs and games."
