Schools are shut, the gritters are out in force and some council services are closed.

Temperatures plummeted to minus-nine last night as Storm Emma struck. The amber warning has now been changed to a yellow warning however two-to-four inches of snow is still expected today with minus-three temperatures.

The Met Office is urging the public to be careful on roads as they will be slippery. Strong winds will lead to further drifting or blowing around of existing snow cover, and may cause powercuts in the area.
