An information systems analyst at the Orthopaedic Hospital has won February’s Health Hero Award.

Ben Rowley works in the Information department at the Oswestry-based hospital and has won the monthly award after being nominated by Amanda Peet and Nicki Bellinger for his work on the new theatre dashboard.

The dashboard is a web-based report which gives up-to-date information about theatre utilisation. This means people can interact with the report to get the data they need when they need it, rather than having to request a report and wait for it.

Amanda, clinical services manager, said: “He’s extremely committed to the ongoing development of the theatre dashboard and his ability to translate requests to demonstrate utilisation is outstanding.”

Nicki, deputy director of nursing, added: “His assistance in the development and continuity of the theatre dashboard has been extremely valuable.”

His award was presented to him by Chief Executive Mark Brandreth.

Two other members of staff - Andy Hughes, senior information systems analyst, and Danni Clarke, IT developer, were also praised by Mark for their ongoing hard work with the Trust’s new data warehouse, which the theatre dashboard has been built into.

Andy and Danni have spent a great deal of time building the foundations of this new warehouse which extracts data from different systems and imports it into tables that can be used for reporting.

Thanks to Andy and Danni’s hard work and commitment the Trust is hoping to switch all reporting to this system in the coming months.

Ben said: “My work wouldn’t be possible without Andy and Danni, what I did was just a small part of all the work they have done.

“I’m so grateful to Amanda and Nicki for nominating me for the Health Hero Award.”

Danni said: “It’s such a boost to have been recognised for the work we’ve done.”

Andy added: “This has definitely made all our hard work worthwhile.”

Mark said: “From Amanda and Nicki’s nomination for Ben it’s clear how much work and effort he has put into the theatre dashboard.

“His work wouldn’t have been possible without what Andy and Danni have been doing behind the scenes.

“Teams like Information and IT often work under the radar with little appreciation for the involvement they have on our day-to-day operations. We would struggle to function without them.

“I am thrilled to present Ben with this month’s Health Hero Award, and I also want to say a huge thank you to Andy and Danni for their work.”
