Renowned natural historian and former professor of palaeontology at London’s Natural History Museum, Richard Fortey, will give a talk in Oswestry next month.

The talk, arranged by the Oswestry branch of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, will take place on Wednesday, March 21 and will focus on the history of his four-acre ancient woodland in Buckinghamshire.

Richard has written many popular science books and presented BBC TV documentaries including Survivors: Nature's Indestructible Creatures, The Secret Life of Rock Pools and Fossil Wonderlands: Nature's Hidden Treasures.

Now in retirement, his latest book concerns the beech and bluebell wood he bought in the Chilterns with a windfall from his television work.

Copies of The Wood for the Trees will be on sale, courtesy of Booka Bookshop, and can be signed by the author.

The talk will take place in the Methodist Church Hall, Castle Street, Oswestry at 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm and entry is £2 for SWT members, £3 for non-members. All welcome.
