ONE of the oldest trees in Wales, a mighty oak planted near Welshpool to mark the border ancient border between Wales and England has sadly fallen down.
The Buttington Oak was probably planted 1,000 years ago as a marker along Offa's Dyke.
The Oak was spotted on the ground in its field two miles from Welshpool by a man nicknamed the "tree hunter" Rob McBride,
Rob McBride said he was sad to see such a significant tree grounded.
Woodland Trust Cymru, said: "Really sad news that this ancient tree has fallen.
"Thanks to @thetreehunter for flagging this up.
"We need to look after our ancient, heritage and veteran trees better in Wales."
