A tale as old as time came to The Marches School in Oswestry last week as students performed their take on the classic Disney tale, Beauty and the Beast.

Featuring a cast of over 60 students from Years 7 to 13, the story is set in France where the beauty Belle lives with her inventor father Maurice and avoids the advances of the devious Gaston. But when her father happens upon a cursed castle that is home to the Beast and a host of cheeky household objects that have the ability to talk, Belle's life changes forever.

Mia McKay and Libby Hughes shared the lead role of Belle, supported by Thom Hughes as the Beast, bringing home the true magic of Disney, while Connor Williams took the role of Gaston, supported by Kim Willoughby as LeFou, with Jake Billington (Lumier), Fleur Watson (Cogsworth), Issy Clarke and Emily Holmes (Mrs Potts) taking the lead roles of the castle's residents.

The team worked from the start of the school year to put on the production and teacher Clare Rose Gilpin commended them saying: "We are lucky to have so many talented students and such a strong culture of performing here at The Marches School.

"I am proud to have such a committed team of staff who have given tirelessly of their time to make this production happen, with sincere thanks to directors Natalie Wright and Sophie McGreal, and musical director Sophie King."

Students performed three sell-out shows on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week, plus a special show on Tuesday to fellow students.
